Upgrade from Associate to Full Member

To progress from Associate Member to Full Member you will be required to undertake the ASORC Professional Supervision Program. This program is to ensure Associate members reach sufficient academic and clinical experience standards prior to becoming Full Members.

The ASORC Professional Supervision Program is based on achievement of the ASORC Competencies for Rehabilitation Counsellors. Whilst being supervised, Associate Members need to be working in roles involving rehabilitation counselling duties in order to gain the required experience.

The ASORC Professional Supervision Program typically lasts for a period of 12 months, during which the Associate Member will be supervised by a Full ASORC Member.

ASORC supervisors must be Full Members of ASORC for a minimum of two years and have three or more years full time Rehabilitation Counselling practice experience.

Please note that the Supervision Contract and Supervisor's Details form must be submitted to the National Office within three months of becoming an Associate Member and approved by ASORC before supervision can officially commence.

There are no additional fees to upgrade your membership.

Supervision Guidelines

On acceptance of ASORC Associate Membership, members agree to undertake the ASORC Professional Supervision Program.

The Supervision Process

The length of supervision required is determined by the Membership Sub-Committee at the time of membership approval. The Associate Member will be advised by ASORC of the required period of supervision.

It is the member's responsibility to identify a supervisor who must be a Full Member of ASORC. In some cases ASORC National Office may be able to assist in securing a supervisor. Once a suitable supervisor has been located and agrees to provide supervision, the ASORC Associate Member should complete the Supervision Program Agreement.

Whilst completing the ASORC Competencies Assessment Form, the Supervisor and the Associate Member make an assessment of the member's competence against the ASORC Competencies for Rehabilitation Counsellors.

The agreed Supervision Program Agreement should be completed online, signed and submitted to the ASORC National Office for approval by the ASORC Membership Sub-Committee before supervision commences. Supervision commences when the Associate Member is advised that the contract has been approved.

Supervision Work Related Tasks

Whilst completing the ASORC Professional Supervision Program, the Supervisor and the Associate Member agree on:

  • the work related tasks to be included in the supervision
  • the number of hours which each task contributes to the required hours of supervision
  • a suitable mix of work related tasks which contribute to meeting the ASORC Competencies for Rehabilitation Counsellors.
