What is this webinar about?
We invite you to join us for the Cultural Safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians Webinar delivered by Cindia Reine a non-Indigenous Australian, Champion Ally and passionate advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. Cindia will explore the following topics:
- The significance of Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country
- How cultural safety can enhance healthcare and cross-cultural client-practitioner relationships
- The role of trauma-informed care and cultural awareness in creating a more inclusive, racism-free workplace
Cultural Safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders is a critical ‘mechanism of change’ we can offer for our clients, colleagues, our workplaces and communities.
According to Indigenous Researcher Dr Tracey Westerman, “Aboriginality in and of itself has proven to be a risk factor”. As practitioners in health care, we must be trauma-informed about Culture Stress to support case conceptualisation when working with First nations peoples. While culture stressors may not be compensable as part of a Work Cover claim, being aware of the potential drivers behind a clients’ presentation allows us to tailor services.
This presentation by Cindia Reine will present an overview of why Cultural Safety Training is necessary, what the training will teach us, and how we as ‘dominant culture’ practitioners can provide Culturally Safe services and healthcare free of racism.
In 2025, Cindia is leading an initiative to partner with Indigenous Researchers to champion Cultural Safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Australians.
