Our Association

The Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counsellors Inc. ASORC ® is governed by the ASORC ® Council. The Council consists of up to 16 Councillors subject to the restriction that the Council must have no more and no less than two (2) Councillors resident in any single Australian State or Territory.

Full members of ASORC ® are eligible to nominate for a position on the Council. The Council shall elect 8 Executive positions from its 16 Councillors. These nominations are lodged at the AGM which routinely occurs in November each year. As a not-for-profit organisation ASORC ® relies on the voluntary assistance of its members to fill these roles.

Mr Michael Iacovino - President

Michael has been involved at ASORC ® State and National sub-committees and at Executive level since 2002. He was nominated as ASORC President in 2007. He has worked in the rehabilitation field since 1989, with a focus on vocational rehabilitation and assessments, both in the compensable and non-compensable areas, as well as RTW and outplacement programs. Since 1999, he has worked as an Occupational Rehabilitation & Employment Services Consultant in private practice, specialising in compensable and non-compensable vocational rehabilitation (State & Commonwealth), as well as undertaking EAP counselling, mediation services, and specialist medicolegal vocational assessment services in his private practice.

Ms Kerry Buchecker - Vice President

Kerry has been involved with ASORC ® since 1997 and held the position of Victorian President for three years prior to the move to Nationalisation. Kerry is currently employed as the Director of Professional Standards for the Catholic Church in Victoria. Her role involves managing the Towards Healing program for people with allegations of abuse against the Clergy and/or lay persons in Victoria.

She also operate a private counselling practice in Victoria providing counselling services to people residing in rural communities. Over the years she has been actively involved in working in a voluntary capacity with several community based and welfare organisations within North West Victoria.

Ms Danielle Murphy - Treasurer

Danielle became a member of ASORC ® in 2004 whilst working for CRS Australia as a Rehabilitation Consultant. Prior to this she worked for 3 years as a Rehabilitation/Employment Consultant in the workers compensation markets with a private provider. In 2005 Danielle became a Senior Rehabilitation Consultant with CRS Australia working across all rehabilitation markets including government funded vocational rehabilitation; Military compensation, workers compensation, non-compensable rehabilitation; and motor vehicle rehabilitation claims.

Danielle is known for her results focused approach to assisting staff and workers navigate their way through the various rehabilitation pathways. Danielle has undertaken projects to improve statewide outcomes in both the compensable and non-compensable markets; and has managed staff in a several different roles. She is an accomplished trainer in the delivery and evaluation of customised training topics and vocational skills analysis. Danielle joined the ASORC ® National Council in 2011.

Professor Elias Mpofu - Secretary

Professor Elias Mpofu is Head of Discipline of Rehabilitation Counselling at the University of Sydney, providing teaching, research, and service leadership to graduate programmes in rehabilitation counselling at that University. Formerly Professor of Rehabilitation Services as the Pennsylvania State University, Elias has an international reputation in the scholarship of teaching with service-learning, and research on community-oriented health interventions. His professional service leadership includes being a panel member of the Australian ICF Disability and Rehabilitation Research Program (AIDRRP), and International Representative of the US National Council of Rehabilitation Education. He published two edited textbooks in 2010 in which he worked with a multidisciplinary team of over a hundred researchers and practitioners in rehabilitation and community health to map over 500 widely used rehabilitation and health assessment instruments to the World Health Organisation's International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF).

Elias is Editor of the Australian Journal of Rehabilitation Counselling (AJRC). He also serves on the editorial boards of several rehabilitation counselling related journals, including the Journal of Rehabilitation Administration, Rehabilitation Education, Rehabilitation Counselling Bulletin, Psychological Assessment, and the International Journal of Disability, Development and Education. He was appointed to the position of Secretary of ASORC ® in December 2010.

ACT

Tamsen Marriott

Tamsen is a qualified Rehabilitation Counsellor. She currently works for the Department of Education Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) in Canberra as the ACT & Southern NSW Manager. Tamsen joined the ASORC ® National Council in 2010.

Tamsen has 17 years experience in the return to work sector. Her work history has included:

  • Case management of injured workers in the workers compensation system and government disability employment services.
  • Supervision of health professionals, including Rehabilitation Counsellors.
  • Management roles in both government and private accredited rehabilitation providers.
  • Contract management of Disability Employment Services and Jobs Services Australia providers.
  • Management of business development and contract management of Indigenous Employment Programs.
  • Tamsen has a particular interest in vocational rehabilitation for people with a mental illness. She is president of Vista Vocational Services (VVS). VVS provides supported employment for people with a mental illness who aim to return to main stream employment.

Catherine Day

Catherine is a qualified rehabilitation counsellor with 18 years experience in workplace rehabilitation and the NSW workers compensation system. She has used all aspects of the core competencies of a rehabilitation counsellor throughout her extensive work experience. Cathy joined the ASORC ® National Council in 2010.

Since 2002 Catherine has been with WorkCover NSW. She is currently managing workplace rehabilitation strategies. During her extensive work history she has:

  • Worked with injured workers to assist their return to work - including case management services, vocational assessment and counselling services, labour market, job preparation and placement services and adjustment to disability counselling services.
  • Provided professional supervision, training and development services to vocational rehabilitation professionals whilst employed with a national rehabilitation provider and
  • Designed service and policy models to ensure providers deliver appropriate services to workers and employers. The models have included long-term unemployed workers initiatives, national quality assurance models for provider management, employer engagement models to employ workers and worker sponsorship models.

Jan Nunan

Jan became an ASORC ® member in 2002 with a goal of being able to provide Supervision to up and coming Rehabilitation Counsellors and to be able to give back something to a profession that had provided so much. She joined the ASORC ® National Council in 2008. Having worked as a Rehabilitation Counsellor in the early 1990's, Jan has worked in CRS Australia for 18 years with the last 14 in a management role.

Jan lives in an idyllic location on the Gold Coast with her two sons and their Golden Retriever, Duncan.

Queensland

Georgia Blackwell

Georgia joined the ASORC ® Council in 2009 and has 14 years experience in the rehabilitation industry in both government (CRS Australia) and private firms. Since 2003 Georgia has been working as a Rehabilitation Consultant / Psychologist in her own private practice. Georgia’s areas of expertise include: Managing complex cases (particularly psychological injuries), Vocational assessment, clarification and re-direction, Labour market analysis, Job Seeking and Redeployment. Georgia provides services for customers including: NSW Workcover, Comcare, income protection insurers; along with a wide range of public and private sector employers.

Georgia is based on the Gold Coast and when not working is considered to be a country and western music “tragic.”

South Australia

David George

David has been actively involved with both the SA State Committee and the ASORC ® Council since 1996, including terms as SA President and Vice President. He was recently appointed a Fellow of The Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counsellors. David is currently employed in a management role working with disadvantaged long-term unemployed job seekers and people with disabilities. He has specialist skills in vocational assessments, working with clients with psychiatric disorders, and the use of counselling therapies in vocational rehabilitation.

David has a keen interest in assessing the skills and qualifications of ASORC ® membership applicants, and in advising on the content of Rehabilitation Counselling university programmes. David lives in Adelaide – the best city in Australia - and can frequently be found bushwalking in the Mt Lofty ranges, or when time and finances permit, travelling ‘on the cheap’ around Egypt and the Middle East.

South Australia

Tania Dhillon

Tania has worked in the rehabilitation and workers compensation industry since 1996 in multiple jurisdictions including South Australia, New South Wales and Canberra. She has extensive experience in rehabilitation case management in registered employer and self-insured markets, delivering services to injured workers with non-compensable illnesses or injuries and compensable claims. Tania has also provided strategic case management services to various insurance companies throughout Australia, State, Territory and Commonwealth Government departments and to self-insured licensees under the Comcare Scheme.

Tania has trained Rehabilitation & Return to Work Coordinators in South Australia and is well known for her professional, energetic and outcome-focused approach with a proven track record in delivering vocational rehabilitation, specialising in complex claims. Tania has a specific interest in workers compensation legislation and risk management and has demonstrated skill in the strategic management of rehabilitation where there are substantial bio-psychosocial barriers and where communication between key stakeholders requires attention allowing case-specific solutions to address and resolve barriers to achieve robust outcomes and liability reduction.

Tania was appointed to the ASORC ® Council in 2008 and is actively involved in a number of industry committees and focus groups relating to professional development of rehabilitation consultants in the worker's compensation environment.

Western Australia

Kelly Alderson

Kelly was appointed to the ASORC ® Council in 2012. She is a Full Member of the Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counsellors, a Certified Personal Injury Professional (Fellow) and currently completing her Master of Human Services (Rehabilitation Counselling).

Kelly has been employed in occupational rehabilitation since 2006 in a broad variety of jurisdictions including Workers, Compensation, Compulsory Third Party and Income Protection Insurance across both state and federal schemes. She has worked in an Injury Management Advising capacity where she provided proactive case management and strategic advice regarding rehabilitation and return to work.

Prior to 2006 Kelly also had previous experience working for a large Job Network Provider where she completed assessments for Centrelink to identify barriers to employment, managed an intensive job search training program and assisted people with significant personal and medical barriers to return to the workforce. Further to this she has also worked in non rehabilitation related roles, within human service departments.
