To be the peak professional body for Rehabilitation Counsellors in Australia.

ASORC ® Vision

To provide the Australian community with highly skilled Rehabilitation Counselling professionals who promote and facilitate employment, independence and resilience, in people with disabilities and health conditions.

ASORC ® provides:

  • A long standing and respected voice for the profession (over 30 years since inception).
  • Resources, education, mentoring and supervision necessary for members to achieve career advancement and enhanced credibility in the profession and in the community.
  • Access to latest research and academic commentary through the ASORC ® Journal (AJRC).
  • Access to a network of similarly skilled and minded professionals across Australia.

ASORC ® objectives:

  1. To advance the professional practice and scientific study of rehabilitation counselling and enhance the contribution of rehabilitation counselling to the community by encouraging the development of all branches of rehabilitation including: promoting and improving research; promoting the dissemination of knowledge through meetings, lectures, professional contacts, papers, reports, discussion and publication; promoting high standards of professional ethics, competence, conduct, education, qualification and achievements amongst rehabilitation counsellors.
  2. To increase public understanding of the role of rehabilitation counselling in assisting persons with disabilities become, to the extent possible; self-sufficient, self-supporting and a contributing member of society.
  3. To establish, develop and maintain professional standards for rehabilitation counselling.
  4. To promote and encourage contact, communication and support amongst Rehabilitation Counsellors.
  5. To assist wherever and whenever possible in implementing new and innovative approaches to the rehabilitation of persons with a disability.
  6. To influence, as far as possible, organisations employing Rehabilitation Counsellors to allow for the optimum utility of their skills.
  7. To be an advocate to all other rehabilitation organisations and cooperate with these organisations in the provision of rehabilitation counselling services.
  8. To improve the standard of service to allow persons with disabilities to achieve their optimum potential through effective rehabilitation.
  9. To promote and encourage the development of professional training opportunities of persons engaged in rehabilitation counselling.
  10. To encourage government bodies to maintain or introduce policies or procedures which ensure the proper and reasonable delivery of services to meet rehabilitation needs of persons with disabilities.
  11. To provide a national forum for discussion of matters of interest to members.
  12. To consult with other relevant groups and with persons with disabilities.
